Scouting the 2nd Street District in Downtown Austin

Tyler on 2nd Street

One of the many things I like about on-location portrait photography is finding great new locations (a.k.a. location scouting). This one, on 2nd street in downtown Austin, is one of my new favorites, especially at sunset. There are two things I like about it ... no three. First, I like the repeating elements of the trees, benches and lights that all recede into the distance. Second, I like the lights in the background that create an effect called "bokah" that's very pleasing in a photograph. Third, I like 2nd street's upscale trendy kinda feel. Austin's done a good job of revitalizing that part of the city, and it's only going to get better with the addition of the W Hotel.

By the way, that's Tyler Guthrie in the photo above. She's a singer/song-writer and fitness trainer by night and corporate receptionist by day. My friend Alex Suarez and I shot with Tyler, in the 2nd street district, last week.
